Violations by militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) against civilians in the areas under its control continue to spark protests and are causing increasing outrage amongst the civilian population.
The latest of these violations was the PYD militia’s murder of a civilian in the town of Mansoura in western rural Raqqa, triggering a wave of protests.
The civilian, Zain al-Hamad al-Zain, was shot dead at a checkpoint manned by PYD’s militants in the town of Mansoura on Wednesday.
Angry protesters responded by throwing stones at the checkpoint and by closing the main streets in the town. They later attacked the checkpoint and set it on fire.
Al-Raqqa is being Silently Slaughtered media campaign said that the PYD militia stormed the town with dozens of military vehicles and dispersed the demonstrators with live fire from machine guns. Many civilians were reportedly injured.
President of the Syrian Coalition, Abdurrahman Mustafa stressed the need to free the Syrian people from the grip of the PYD militias and rid Syria of all forms of terrorism. He said that the institutions of the Syrian Interim Government stood ready to work in all the areas from which terrorist elements will be ousted and to reactivate service institutions in those areas.
The PYD militia faces popular rejection in the areas under their control because of the forced recruitment and widespread violations against the local population. The situation in the town of Mansoura has been tense due to the PYD’s rounding up of the young people to take them into forced recruitment over the past two days.
