Syrian rebels denied meeting with Russian officials in a statement signed by nearly 50 rebel factions, including Jaish al-Islam.
“We categorically deny reports about meeting with Russian officials in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi,” the statement said. It added “it is not possible to sit down with the Russians while they occupy Syria and target Syrian civilians, hospitals and rebel fighters.”
The statement pointed out that Russia’s circulation of these rumors aims to sow division and confusion among rebels, mislead public opinion and to draw attention away from their crimes in Syria.
