Rebel fighters said they recaptured the village of Doreen in rural Latakia yesterday evening after violent clashes with regime forces and their allied foreign militias. Many pro-regime militants were reportedly killed or injured during clashes in the strategic area.
Rebels earlier recaptured the Mreishoud slope, the Al-Jalta and Sheikh Mohammed hilltops in the Al-Akrad Mountain area, while regime forces bombarded the Salma resort area with mortar and artillery.
The latest rebel gains enabled them to consolidate their positions in rural Latakia, most importantly around the strategic Salma resort and in the Al-Akrad Mountain areas.
Spokesman for the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet praises the gains being made by rebel fighters in Handarat and rural Latakia, pointing out that these spectacular gains turned the dreams of Assad and Soleimani to encircle Aleppo into a nightmare. “Syrian rebels, though outgunned and under-resourced, once again demonstrate unshakeable will in fending off Syria’s several enemies, specifically the Assad regime, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hezbollah and ISIS.
