A female rights activist was hospitalized after she was brutally beaten by militants of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the city of Raqqa on Thursday. The physical assault came in response to the activist’s criticism of the PYD militias violations against unarmed civilians in the areas under their control.
Local activists said that human rights activist Reem al-Nasser suffered a head injury and her face was bloodied after she was savagely beaten by PYD militants, which required taking her to hospital.
Local news outlets quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the PYD militants brutally beat Reem on the head. The outlets published photos of the victim with blood covering her face and running from her head.
A prominent advocate of human rights, especially women’s rights, Reem Al-Nasser has also contributed to the work of charities and humanitarian organizations in Raqqa province.
Al-Nasser is an outspoken critic of the PYD militias and their failure to provide essential services to civilians and their gross violations of human rights, most notably the murder, torture and arbitrary detention of unarmed civilians in the areas under their control.
