The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that 15 people were killed under torture in Syria in November 2018, 14 of whom were killed by the Assad regime, including a woman.
In a new report released on Sunday, the Network said that three people were killed in each of Damascus and Rural Damascus, two in each of Dara’a, Homs and Hama, and one in each of Idlib, Lattakia, and Deir Ezzor.
The report listed names of university students who were killed under torture in the Assad regime’s detention facilities, including Bader Daoud, Abdulrahman Ali Bakkour, Hassan Ibrahim al-Hajj, and computer engineer Laila Shweikani.
The Network said the killing under torture did not exclude even athletes as it confirmed the death of former Wathba football player Hossam Turkmani due to torture in one of the Assad regime’s detention centers.
In an earlier report, the Network said that 964 people have been killed under torture in Syria since the beginning of 2018, 939 of whom were killed by the Assad regime.
The monitoring group set forth a set of recommendations including calling on the Security Council and the United Nations to take action to save the remaining detainees in the prisons of the Assad regime. It also called for exerting increasing pressure on the Assad regime to implement UN Security Council resolutions 2042, 2139, and 2254.
The UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria earlier called on the Assad regime to give explanations for the causes of the death of thousands of detainees in its prisons. It urged the regime to acknowledge the truth about how victims perished, reveal the whereabouts of their remains, and promptly, thoroughly, transparently, and independently investigating all custodial deaths.
