The Syrian Committee for Human Rights (SCHR) documented 2,196 people killed across Syria in December 2015. The majority of the deaths occurred due to airstrikes and barrel bombings by Russian and regime air forces. Dozens, however, were also killed by airstrikes launched by the US-led anti-ISIS coalition, clashes with regime forces and with ISIS, car bombings and executions by ISIS.
The committee listed 186 people killed by ISIS, 43 in airstrikes by the US-led anti-ISIS coalition, 8 by the PYD militias and 23 due to the siege the Assad regime imposes on eastern Ghouta and the one ISIS imposes on Deir Ezzor city.
According to SCHR, the deaths included 317 children, 192 women and 31 people who died under torture in the prisons of the Assad regime and the Kurdish PYD militias.
The 2,196 deaths were spread across cities as follows: 606 in Aleppo, 542 in Damascus and its suburbs, 310 in Idlib, 157 in Dara’a, 151 in Homs, 128 in Deir Ezzor, 99 in Hama, 84 in Al-Hasaka 62 in Al-Raqqa, 54 in Latakia, 2 in Quneitra and 1 in Tartous. (Source: Syrian Coalition + SCHR)
