The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that up to 516 massacres took place in Syria during 2015, 55 of which took place during the month of December. Regime forces stepped up barrel bombing of civilian neighborhoods across Syria during December.
In a report issued yesterday, Monday, SNHR said that the Russian air force has committed 50 massacres between October and January, most of which occurred in the provinces of Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Idlib. The report added that these massacres claimed the lives of over 6,000 people.
The report said nearly 15,000 people were killed in 2015, with an average of a weekly death toll of 300.
The network said it documented at least 11,953 people detained in 2015, including 1,418 people in December.
These figures included only victims the network was able to document by full name, leaving many more undocumented.
The Syrian Coalition has repeatedly called for referring officials of the Assad regime, starting with Bashar al-Assad himself, to the International Criminal Court, and for accountability for war crimes to which Russia must be considered a key partner. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
