The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said it had documented eight new chemical weapons attacks by regime forces against rebel-held areas in Syria.
A report the rights group released under the title “Lack of Russian Assurance” on Tuesday listed eight new attacks in which regime forces used chemical weapons. The report recorded 133 regime violations of UN Security Council resolution 2118 (2013) and 63 violations of UN Security Council resolution 2209 (2015).
The eight attacks, which took place between August 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015, were launched against rebel-held areas in Darayya, Arbin, Harasta, Jobar and Moadamiyah in Rural Damascus and in Rastan and Talbeesah in rural Homs.
According to the report, 19 people died in these attacks which also caused dozens of cases of asphyxiation.
SNHR called on the UN Commission of Inquiry to investigate the attacks and name the side that used this type of internationally banned weapons.
The report urged the UN Security Council to assume its responsibility to maintaining peace and security and to stop prioritizing political interests over the blood of the Syrian people. It stressed that the regime’s utter disregard for UN Security Council resolutions constitutes a scandal and an ultimate insult to the Council.
SNHR called upon the UN Human Rights Council to shed more light on the Assad regime’s violations of UN Security Council resolutions 2118 and 2209 in order to put greater pressure on the UNSC to take tangible deterrent measures. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
