The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that airstrikes by the international anti-ISIS coalition forces killed 2,984 civilians, including 932 children and 646 women in the period between September 23, 2014 and January 5 2019.
In a report released on Thursday, the Network said that it recorded at least 168 massacres claiming the lives of an average of five people each in the reporting period. It noted that it also recorded no fewer than 182 attacks on vital civilian centers, including 25 schools and 16 healthcare centers. It indicated that the figures do not include attacks on targets where ISIS militants were holed up.
The monitoring group stressed that the United States should compensate the families of nearly 3,000 Syrian civilians who were killed in the campaign against ISIS before the announcement by US President Donald Trump of his decision to withdraw US troops from Syria.
The US’s withdrawal of its troops from Syria could be exploited by Russia to further expand its influence in Syria and impose its vision for a solution that is based on forming a constitutional committee and the introduction of sham reforms.
In an earlier report, the Network said that it recorded at least eight massacres in Syria in November, indicating that the international coalition committed most of these massacres.
The Syrian Coalition on January 5 called for the launch of a thorough investigation into all operations by the international coalition forces that caused civilian deaths, calling for accountability and compensation for the victims.
The Network called on the United States to compensate the victims and start rebuilding the facilities that were destroyed in its bombing campaign. The rebuilding should be funded and supervised by the countries that formed the international coalition, the Network said. It noted that tasking certain countries with reconstruction may affect the stability, security and rights of the Syrian society. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
