Rebel fighters in Daryya near Damascus said they repelled attempts by regime forces to break into the western and northern sides of the rebel-held district. Nine pro-regime militants were reportedly killed and many more wounded. A tank belonging to regime forces was also destroyed.
Attempts by regime forces to break into the district were accompanied by heavy barrel bombing and artillery shelling. Regime helicopters dropped over 60 barrel bombs on rebel positions, which were also pounded with a barrage of rockets, artillery and mortar fire.
Shuhadaa’ al-Islam Brigade announced that two of its field commanders, Omar Abu Farouk and Firas Abu Thabit were killed while repelling the regime’s offensive. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
