The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that the Russian forces supporting the Assad regime killed no fewer than 5,783 Syrian civilians in the period between September 30, 2015 and December 31, 2017.
In a report detailing the civilian casualties resulting from the Russian aggression on Syria released on Sunday, the Network said that Russian bombing campaign in Syria claimed the lives of at least 5,783 civilians, including 1,596 children and 992 women during the reporting period. The victims also included 53 medical personnel.
The monitoring group said that it recorded at least 294 massacres and 817 attacks on vital civilian centers by the Russian forces in the same period.
According to the report, Russian forces used cluster munitions in about 217 attacks and incendiary munitions in other 113 attacks.
The Network stressed that if Russia wants to have a role to play in a political solution, it must apologize to the Syrian people and rebuild what its forces have destroyed. It called on Moscow to stop its attacks on unarmed civilians in Syria.
Rights groups have repeatedly accused Russia of targeting civilians since the start of its bombing campaign on the side of the Assad regime in late September 2015. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
