Syrian Activists Publish Figures Detailing Heavy Toll of Assad Regime & Russia Crimes on Civilians in Syria’s North

The media center in the town of Ma’arat al-Nu’man in rural Idlib on Sunday published figures detailing the results of the brutal bombing campaign being launched by the Assad regime and Russian air forces on Idlib province. The figures showed that the bombing campaign is targeting mainly civilians and infrastructure.

The center published infographs detailing the results of the bombings in many parts of the Syrian north in the period between December 1, 2017 and February 10, 2018.

According to the center, the Assad regime and Russian airstrikes destroyed seven hospitals, nine health facilities, 20 schools, five civil defense centers, 18 mosques, 12 IDPs camps, and six headquarters of local councils.

The center said that the Assad regime and Russian air forces conducted no fewer than 5,000 airstrikes and around 1,000 aerial attacks using barrel bombs and naval mines targeting mainly populated areas and causing several massacres. The attacks killed at least 405 civilians, including 75 children and eight women, as well as injured more than 3,000 others.

The center noted that the relentless bombing campaign has displaced 52,278 civilians from their homes, including 146,605 children and 101,607 women.

Last week, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that the Assad regime and its allies committed no fewer than 22 massacres during the month of January. The upsurge in violence in the Idlib province and eastern Ghouta prompted the UN-mandated Independent International Commission of Inquiry to express “deep concern over the further escalation of violence in Idlib governorate and in eastern Ghouta.”

As many as 45 local non-government aid groups on Thursday issued a joint statement calling for an end to the systematic targeting of health facilities by the Assad regime forces and their allies, warning that the living conditions of civilians and humanitarian workers continue to determinate.

Local activists warned that the towns and villages in rural Idlib have been left without operational health centers and hospitals as a result of the ongoing bombing campaign by the Assad regime and Russian air forces.

Russian jets and Assad regime helicopters have launched a brutal bombing campaign on Idlib province since late December. The bombings killed hundreds of civilians and wounded thousands more as well as caused massive destruction to infrastructure facilities and vital civilian centers. Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
