Civic, political bodies and trade unions in Idlib province appealed to the UN Security Council and its current president the Polish Foreign Minister to prevent an imminent humanitarian disaster in Idlib province.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the group said that Idlib province is being subjected to blatant aggression by the Russians and the Iranians who are helping the Assad regime in the killing and displacement of unarmed civilians. It pointed out that more than four million civilians living in the province are suffering as a result of this aggression.
The statement indicated that attacks by regime forces and their allies killed and maimed thousands of civilians as well as caused massive destruction to medical facilities, public markets and hospitals as they are mainly targeting civilian homes and civil defense centers.
The statement stressed the need to activate the international and humanitarian laws on protection for civilians and to stop “the Russian and Iranian killing machines who have made Syria’s soil a testing ground for all types of conventional and non-conventional weapons, including those internationally prohibited ones.
The statement called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to maintain international peace and security, to stop attacks on civilians, and to take swift action to prevent an imminent disaster in Idlib province.
Moreover, the statement called on the UN Security Council to enforce resolutions 2118 and 2254 to resume the political process and find a lasting solution in Syria. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
