The Syrian Interim Government (SIG) has declared a three-day mourning period in liberated areas. They expressed their condolences for the Baptist Hospital massacre in Gaza, which was committed by the Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday. In response, SIG institutions and departments in northwestern Syria’s liberated areas will fly flags at half-mast.
SIG drew parallels between this tragedy and the crimes committed by the Assad regime and its allies against the Syrian people over many years. They emphasized that Syrians, both within the country and worldwide, stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn these crimes and atrocities against innocent individuals.
The statement underscored that the Syrian people were the first to recognize the shortcomings of international standards and the risks of disregarding violations of international law. They have consistently warned against normalizing the Assad regime’s approach to killing and displacing civilians.
SIG called for an immediate cessation of the cycle of violence, destruction, and displacement, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators of these crimes accountable. They extended their condolences to the Palestinian people and all advocates of humanity around the world.
