Nadir al-Jibli, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in the Syrian interim government, said that “the ministry has carried out a project of solar energy in a small refugee camp near the town of Atma in northern Syria. The goal of the project is to study the feasibility of such projects, as the ministry is developing a project to set up three big refugee camps equipped with solar energy near the Turkish border. We are studying several tenders on the project, including one submitted by Turkish company as the camps will be set up near the Turkish border.” Al Jibli added that “we have developed another project to provide hospitals in the rebel-held areas with solar energy, and one to produce propane gas by processing waste. We are also negotiating with the European Investment Fund to get funding for the project. We will also try to invest the oil fields in the rebel-held areas, a project which is faced with some difficulties due to the changing military situation in eastern Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
