The Syrian interim government condemns the daily bombardment of civilian areas across Syria, particularly in Aleppo, where dozens of schoolchildren were killed due to aerial bombing that targeted a school in the neighborhood of Al-Ansari in Aleppo. “The international community’s failure to protect the civilians in Syria and the failure to provide the means that enable them to defend themselves is what embolden Assad to commit more crimes. We call on the international community to take urgent and deterrent measures to stop Assad’s brutal crimes.” The interim government confirmed that it “is intensifying our contacts with the international organizations concerned with protection of children who to urge them hold the Assad regime accountable.” It also pledged to provide urgent support to the families of the children killed in the aerial bombardment on the school in Aleppo and to rebuild a school Ein Jalout School. Taghrid Al Hajli, Minister of Culture in the interim government, blamed Assad’s daily massacres on the silence of the international community. “We call upon the free world “to pass a resolution that incriminates the bombing of civilians, particularly children in Syria, and also to neutralize the scientific, cultural, religious and archaeological sites from the fighting and bombing. We call upon the Arab states to take urgent action and in all international forums to force the Assad regime to stop the barrel bomb attacks on populated areas in Syria.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
