The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has released a new report providing documentation and evidence of the PYD militia’s arrest and brutal torture of a young man in the town of Ayn al-Arab.
The report details the case of Reiber Haji Hussein, a 36-year-old resident of Ayn al-Arab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo province. He was abducted by PYD militants on September 20 in Ayn al-Arab and subsequently taken to one of their detention facilities in the town. The reason for his detention was his Facebook call to close shops and participate in protests against the PYD militia.
The SNHR reveals that Reiber was released by the PYD militia on September 21. The report presents photographs and videos documenting the severe torture inflicted on him, evident from the various injuries and marks on his body resulting from various forms of torture methods.
Additionally, the PYD militia recorded a video featuring the victim in a handcuffed state with a sign hanging from his chest, reading, ‘To our honorable people, this is the end of everyone who insults, curses, and incites the people in Kobani.’ The SNHR views this as a combination of systematic torture and a violation of human dignity.
The SNHR notes that the torture methods and invasion of the citizen’s privacy, as seen in Reiber’s case, are reminiscent of similar practices by the Assad regime’s shabiha and security forces, as well as ISIS, who have appeared in numerous videos proudly showcasing their torture of Syrian citizens.
Abdul Basit Abdul Latif, Coordinator of the Al-Jazira and Euphrates Committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), confirms that the PYD terrorist militia is currently intimidating the local population and arresting anyone who disobeys them. They employ the same brutal tactics seen in the practices of the Assad regime and other terrorist organizations.
Abdul Latif underscores that the PYD militia refuses to tolerate peaceful movements within their territories. He calls for international action to protect civilians in the east of the Euphrates, demands a complete cessation of support for this terrorist militia, and urges accountability for the crimes they have committed against civilians.
