The Syrian interim government concluded the summer compensation program in Syria and the refugee camps in neighboring countries. As the Syrian children are the most affected by the Assad regime’s bombardment of cities, towns and even schools, the interim government carried out many education projects the last of which was the compensation summer program in Syria and the refugee camps in neighboring countries as a part of the Ministry’s plan to take in the latecomers, the displaced and repeaters. The program took in many children to make up for what they missed during the last academic year in the liberated areas and in the refugee camps. Fawaz Awad, Deputy Minister of Education, said that the Ministry has received projects submitted to it by the Departments of Education in the Syrian provinces. Awad also said that the Ministry has budgeted compensatory programs which will focus on teaching Arabic, English, mathematics, science, religious education, in addition to many psychological activities which have had a positive role in dealing with the school children and the educational process in general.” The program included overseeing schools in Syria, Lebanon and Turkey. Around 30,000 school children in Syria underwent a compensatory program that lasted for two and half months, while the program took in 1720 school children in Lebanon and 10,000 in Turkey. At the end of the program school children’s level was assessed to determine if they can move on to the next grade. The program comes as part of the “Teach a Million Children” campaign that aims to take as many school children as possible and help them go back to school. (Source: Syrian Interim Government)
