Dozens of civilians were killed and wounded in the past few hours as a result of the ongoing military escalation by the Assad regime and Russian forces in the provinces of Idlib and Hama. Local activists said that the bombardment is targeting civilian areas and vital civilian centers, causing an increase in the number of displaced persons.
Activists said two men and a woman were killed and others were injured in rocket shelling and airstrikes that pummeled the town of Khan Sheikhoun.
Airstrikes killed two children and a woman in the town of Ma’ret Masrin in southern rural Idlib.
Assad regime helicopters dropped eight barrel bombs on the town of Heish, killing two people and injuring three others.
A young man and an elderly woman were also killed and eight civilians, including two women, were injured in rocket shelling on the town of Kifranbel. Local activists said that regime forces fired 11 rockets on the town, two of which carrying cluster munitions.
Four people were wounded in airstrikes that pummeled the town of Ma’aret al-Nu’man, while two others were injured in artillery shelling targeting the town of Bdama.
Airstrikes also hit residential neighborhoods in the town of Kafarsijna and the M5 highway near the town of Heish, Ma’aret Harama, the towns of Kfaroma, Maarzita, Kafar Mazdah, and Moqa, without reports of casualties.
The Assad regime and Russian forces have recently stepped up airstrikes as well as rocket and artillery shelling, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians in the past few days.
