Ahmad Tomeh, the interim government’s president-designate, said that “the strategy that will be pursued by the interim government will be based on initiatives and not reactions, and will be focused on providing services for the citizens inside Syria,” during a press conference that followed his winning of the elections. “We will do our best to achieve security, secure schools and enable citizens to register births, deaths and marriages, and obtain the official documents and passports. We will also work hard to put an end to the chaos of arms, rebuild the judicial system, take on the management of the border crossings and build a new police force. A national task of this magnitude cannot be achieved without everyone uniting behind the interim government.” Moreover, Tomeh calls for combining all efforts “to restore our hijacked homeland, a task far more difficult than the management of a stable country. Some even believe that our task is impossible, but we will prove to the world, through our cooperation and unity, that no one can stop us from regaining freedom for Syria and rebuilding the homeland.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
