On World Children’s Day, Hadi Al-Bahra, President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), emphasized that Syrian children have been the greatest victims of the past 13 years, holding the Assad regime primarily responsible for creating compounded crises affecting Syrian children. These crises include displacement, denial of education, deteriorating healthcare and mental health services, and worsening humanitarian, social, and economic conditions.
Al-Bahra stated, “We aspire for a better future for Syria for the sake of its children,” underscoring that the plight of Syrian children “doubles our responsibility as Syrians to ensure their rescue and protection, create an environment conducive to their education, and provide necessary care services.” He called on the international community to support and cooperate in this endeavor.
He reaffirmed the SOC’s unwavering commitment to the safety of Syrian children and the restoration of their rights, which are tied to the country’s stability and safe recovery through a comprehensive political process. This process must lead to a political solution in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions 2254 (2015) and 2118 (2013). Al-Bahra also highlighted the importance of ensuring that all parties, especially the Assad regime, comply with international treaties, conventions, and laws related to the protection and rights of children.
