London-based research group Forensic Architecture on Thursday released an investigative video confirming that 22-year-old Syrian asylum seeker Muhammad al-Arab was killed by Greek border guards. It indicated that the shooting of the asylum-seeker took place at about 8:00 am last Monday.
The video confirms the time, date and location of videos shot by witnesses during the incident, using video metadata and comparing video footage with satellite images of the area.
The video proves that al-Arab was indeed killed by live ammunition on the Greek-Turkish border as he was trying to cross into Greece.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) on Monday condemned the violence against Syrian refugees on the Greek border, calling on the European Union to take serious, concrete action with regards to the crimes taking place against civilians in Syria and not to limit its response to expressions of denunciation and concern.
