The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the deadly attack on the town of Maret Masrin in rural Idlib is “a new heinous crime has revealed the nature of the Russian aggression against the Syrian people and its partnership with a regime that insists on targeting civilians and committing the most heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
In a press release issued on Thursday, the SOC said that the deadly attack by the Russian occupation jets on Thursday on a shelter holding IDP killed 16 civilians and wounded many others near the town of Maret Masrin.
“The international community must take action to put an end to these Russian crimes and to stand with the Syrian people and their national army as well as with Turkey in its efforts to protect civilians and prevent further mass forced displacement,” said the SOC.
The SOC underscored that “the establishment of a safe zone in northwestern Syria has become absolutely necessary today pending a fair political transition away from the head of the regime or its pillars whose hands are stained with the blood of the Syrian people.”
“There will be no chance for stability and security to prevail in the world until these crimes are referred to the International Criminal Court. Letting the perpetrators get away with their actions will risk opening the door to more crimes, the escalation of the violations of international law, the spread of chaos, and creating the appropriate conditions for terrorism to grow and fester.” (SOC’s Media Department)
