Progressive Socialist Party Leader Walid Jumblatt warned Tuesday that thousands of Iranian Revolutionary Guard troops had been dispatched to As-Suwayda, the majority-Druze city, reiterating calls for Lebanon to stand neutral in regional conflicts.
“I’m worried for the fate of Arab Druze people in the region and the traditions of this Arab region,” Jumblatt said referring to As-Suwayda.
Jumblatt said the presence of the Iranian military in the area demonstrated a clear connection between the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah, both supporting President Bashar Assad’s regime. “It has become a reality that if not for Iran, the Syrian regime would’ve collapsed a long time ago,” Jumblatt added.
President Khoja earlier said that “as the Syrian Revolution enters its fifth year, it is shifting away from being a revolution against tyranny and injustice to a battle for liberating Syria from the Iranian occupation after Assad handed over Syria to Iran and after Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Qods Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard took on commanding the regime’s military operations.
“With the Syrian Revolution going through a crucial turning point, Khoja calls on the Syrian people to unify efforts and close the ranks to put the revolution back on track and build a state of justice, equity and freedom.” (Source: Syrian Coalition + Agencies)
