Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz said his government “was striving to maintain Syria as a unified nation inclusive of all sects.” The King made his comments during the inauguration of a new session for the consultative Shura Council on Wednesday.
King Salman also said that Bashar al-Assad made the rise of the Islamic State group possible. The King also called for a political settlement involving moderate forces to end the war in Syria.
The solution would be to form “a transitional government made up of moderate opposition forces, ensuring the unity of Syrians and the departure of foreign forces and terrorist organizations,” King Salman added.
Those terrorist organizations “could not have found fertile ground in Syria, had it not been for the Assad regime’s policies, which have exterminated hundreds of thousands … and displaced millions,” King Salman said. (Source: Agencies)
