The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi al-Bahra, expressed his condemnation of all attacks carried out by the Israeli occupation against the Syrian state and its infrastructure, particularly during these critical times for the Syrian people.
In an interview with BBC, al-Bahra urged the international community to take appropriate measures to reinstate adherence to all previous agreements signed between Syria and the occupying state, including ceasefire agreements and armistice agreements from 1974 and 1949.
Regarding internal developments, al-Bahra emphasized that the current priority is to maintain security in Syria and ensure the safety and protection of all citizens across various groups and components. He also highlighted the importance of guaranteeing the uninterrupted provision of basic services to the population.
Al-Bahra underscored key parameters for establishing transitional governance institutions, in line with the roadmap outlined by the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254. He noted that these parameters require such institutions to be inclusive, credible, and operate within a defined timeline, avoiding any sectarian basis.
He further clarified that the SOC is currently active in Damascus and Aleppo, engaging with all segments of Syrian society to achieve inclusivity. He stressed the necessity for a transitional governing body that is comprehensive and does not exclude anyone.
Al-Bahra pointed out that the Geneva Communique of 2012, which serves as a clear and broad roadmap, along with the declarations of the Syrian opposition from conferences such as Cairo and others, provides a clear vision for the future system of governance in Syria. This system is to be based on political pluralism, democratic principles, and a peaceful transfer of power through free and fair elections.
