President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, paid tribute to the people of Sweida on the first anniversary of their courageous peaceful uprising against the Assad regime. He emphasized that this uprising has been, from the outset, a powerful expression of the rejection of a tyrannical regime known only for killing, injustice, and corruption, which Syrians have endured for decades.
Al-Bahra highlighted that the people of Sweida have responsibly and courageously set a distinctive example for the continuation of the peaceful revolution that began in 2011, aimed at achieving a comprehensive political transition towards democracy. He noted that the demands raised by the people in this uprising align with the principles of freedom, justice, and equal citizenship in rights and duties, principles that the entire Syrian population is advocating for.
Al-Bahra underscored the importance of continuing this peaceful uprising. He called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in supporting the Syrian people’s demands for a transition to a democratic system that respects human rights and ensures justice, security, and stability in the country, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions 2254 and 2118, as well as the Geneva Communique of 2012.
He urged all Syrians to unite and remain committed to the principles and values of the revolution, which are based on justice, freedom, and respect for human dignity. He also emphasized the importance of rejecting all forms of violence and extremism while working towards building a bright future for the country.
On this occasion, Al-Bahra saluted the free people of Sweida and everyone who supported this uprising and contributed to achieving its noble goals, reaffirming the commitment to continue the struggle until all the demands for which the Syrian people have sacrificed are met.
