Abdul Majeed Barakat, Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), emphasized that Russia and the Assad regime are escalating their military operations against the liberated areas in northern Syria, while the Israel occupation continues to launch intermittent attacks on Syrian territory and threatens to storm southern Syria.
In a press statement, Barakat noted that the Assad regime issued an administrative order on October 5 to end the recall and retention of reserve officers and non-commissioned officers. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Israeli occupation forces have advanced into Syrian territory through the Quneitra front. Barakat stressed that this administrative move amounts to a green light from the regime, enabling Israel to occupy more land without any objection from the Syrian authorities.
Barakat explained that the Syrian people never believed the regime’s claims of being part of a resistance movement against the Israel occupation, but today it is clearer than ever that these claims were false. He asserted that the regime’s dictatorship has served as a guarantee for Israeli control by preventing Syrians from developing their capacity to manage their affairs or liberate occupied territories.
He added that the Assad regime is now more exposed to the Syrian people than ever, and it is evident to everyone that the regime cares only about maintaining power, regardless of the consequences—whether it means the destruction of the country or the death and suffering of its people.
The past two days have witnessed a military escalation in the liberated areas in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib, and Latakia. Local activists and media outlets shared images of Russian airstrikes on various areas in Idlib province and on the Kabbina hills in northern Latakia.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defense reported artillery shelling by regime forces targeting the outskirts of the town of Atarib, west of Aleppo, shortly before midnight on Tuesday. The shelling resulted in eight civilian injuries, including two children, most of whom were from the same family, suffering mild to moderate wounds. Additionally, 16 rocket shells, originating from areas jointly controlled by the regime and PYD terrorist militia, struck a road between the villages of Umm Adasa and Jib al-Nasasan in eastern Aleppo’s countryside.
