Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Hakim Bashar, has emphasized that the threats issued by the PYD militia to close the offices of the Kurdish National Council and its affiliated parties, citing a lack of licenses, are not a novel development. He characterized these threats as yet another desperate attempt, echoing previous efforts aimed at obstructing the activities of the Kurdish National Council and marginalizing its role. Bashar asserted that these attempts have failed unequivocally.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Bashar articulated the Kurdish National Council’s stance, labeling the PYD militia as an illegitimate de facto authority that has asserted itself through the use of force. He reiterated that the Council’s position remains steadfast and unchanged in this regard.
Furthermore, Bashar underscored the Kurdish National Council’s categorical refusal to subject its political activities and offices to the authority of a militia characterized by oppression, tyranny, and intimidation. He highlighted the PYD militia’s ongoing efforts to undermine the Council’s legitimacy as the representative body of Kurds in Syria, attributing these actions to the militia’s apprehension regarding the Council’s widespread support. Bashar asserted that the PYD militia is intensifying its efforts to constrain and weaken the Council through various means.
