Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, has denounced the ongoing misconduct of the Assad regime, accusing it of immorally governing Syria while disregarding the multitude of crises and tragedies it has spawned in recent years. Rahmeh highlighted the regime’s detachment from reality, criticizing its media for shamelessly talking about political parties, party commities, and authority.
“The regime’s attempt to disseminate falsehoods has been thoroughly exposed. The so-called Baath Party in Syria is indistinguishable from the Assad regime; they are inseparable,” emphasized Rahmeh.
Reflecting on Syria’s tumultuous history since the Baath Party coup in 1963 and Hafez al-Assad’s ascent to power, Rahmeh described a nation engulfed in a dark abyss of injustice, oppression, and violence. Bashar al-Assad’s regime exacerbated this darkness through the use of chemical weapons, barrel bombs, and other heinous atrocities, effectively transforming Syria into a single-party state with pervasive control over all aspects of governance, including the military, security apparatus, media, and economy.
Despite enduring immense sacrifices in their struggle against the Assad regime and its monopolistic rule, Rahmeh reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Syrian people to attain freedom, political pluralism, and the rule of law. He underscored their demand for justice, emphasizing the imperative of holding the Assad regime accountable for its egregious crimes.
