Haytham Rahmeh, Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), condemned the horrific massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces in the Nuseirat camp in the Gaza Strip on Saturday. The intense bombardment, which targeted an UNRWA school housing displaced persons and a crowded public market nearby, resulted in the deaths of more than 200 Palestinian civilians, including dozens of children.
Rahmeh called on the international community to act immediately to stop Israeli crimes and implement serious measures to protect civilians. He emphasized the urgency of action, especially after Israeli forces ignored a Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt to the fighting and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop its attack on Rafah. Rahmeh also called for immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
Rahmeh highlighted that the international community’s failure to resolve crises in conflict zones worldwide has allowed many parties to use excessive brutality, fail to distinguish between civilian and military targets, and commit severe human rights violations without any real deterrent.
Expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people during their difficult ordeal, Rahmeh called for the establishment of global peace. He stressed the importance of justice for the families and victims, and the need to meet their legitimate demands for freedom, independence, and relief from injustice and occupation.
