The Syrian Women’s Authority, in partnership with the Stabilization Support Unit, held a significant working meeting in the Turkish city of Sanliurfa on Friday. Attendees included coordinators from the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Unions and Federations working group, Al-Jazira and Euphrates working group, Legal Committee, Refugees and Displaced Persons working group, and Civil Society Organizations working group.
This workshop is part of the Authority’s initiative to expand and enhance the participation of Syrian women in public and political affairs. The goal is to activate the role of Syrian women by involving them in the SOC’s working groups, thereby increasing their participation in decision-making processes within the SOC and the broader political sphere.
SOC’s Vice President and supervisor of the Syrian Women’s Authority, Dima Moussa, highlighted that this meeting supports the objectives of both the Syrian Women’s Authority and the SOC by broadening the reach to more women. The aim is to ensure that Syrian women have a greater voice in public affairs and the political process, both internally and regionally.
Moussa noted that the Syrian Women’s Authority was established to address the insufficient number of Syrian women within the SOC. The Authority aims to expand women’s participation in the SOC and tackle their underrepresentation. She emphasized that this effort does not exclude women from any political bodies or from their right to attain decision-making positions.
Moussa explained that the initial phase of the Syrian Women’s Authority focused on training and familiarizing women with political work, media presence, and other relevant skills. The current phase involves empowering women through practical engagement and direct networking with the SOC, participating in its committees and working groups. This initiative aims to amplify women’s voices and facilitate their inclusion in the ranks of the SOC.
