The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, strongly condemned the Arab League’s decision to remove the Hezbollah Militia from its list of terrorist groups. He emphasized that this move does not serve the interests of Arab states that have suffered from the terrorism of Hezbollah and its affiliated militias across multiple Arab countries, including Syria.
In a press statement, Rahmeh underscored that the classification of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization was based on its heinous sectarian crimes against Syrian civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. He added that these crimes are well-documented by human rights and international organizations and cannot be denied, erased, or overlooked.
Rahmeh pointed out that Hezbollah is involved in terrorist operations beyond Lebanon’s borders, particularly in the Gulf states and European and Western countries. He described Hezbollah as one of Iran’s military arms in Arab countries, attributing the deteriorating political, economic, and social conditions in Lebanon to its actions. Additionally, he highlighted the crimes committed by Hezbollah in Syria over more than 13 years.
Rahmeh argued that the Arab League’s search for solutions to the region’s difficult situations cannot involve rapprochement with Hezbollah, justifying or condoning its crimes. Instead, he called for a unified Arab stance that rejects these crimes and holds those responsible accountable. He stressed that solutions should provide support and assistance to the oppressed who seek to rid themselves of these militias, restore stability to their countries and the region, and rebuild Arab relations to their previous state.
