President of the Kurdish National Council, Suleiman Owusu, has called on the people in the region east of the Euphrates to participate in a peaceful gathering in front of the United Nations headquarters in the town of Qamishli this Monday evening. The protest is aimed at denouncing the kidnappings carried out by the PYD terrorist militia against members of the council and other repressive practices that affect freedom of expression.
Owusu emphasized that participation in the demonstration and showing solidarity with the families of the kidnapped is a sincere expression of rejection of all forms of arrest and kidnapping based on political affiliation. He demanded the immediate release of Kurdish National Council members kidnapped by PYD militants, including media activist Beriwan Ismail.
The call comes amid an ongoing crackdown by the PYD terrorist militia in areas east of the Euphrates against members of the Kurdish National Council and the local population. Local media have reported that the arrest campaigns have targeted dozens of young men for compulsory conscription.
