On the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, Haytham Rahmeh, Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), said that genocide crimes continue to be repeated in various places around the world due to the international community’s inability to protect civilians.
Rahmeh remarked that the world is witnessing brutal crimes against innocent people in Syria, Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine, yet remains content to watch without taking meaningful action. This inaction, he said, leaves victims feeling deeply disappointed.
Rahmeh emphasized that the international community must develop effective mechanisms to achieve accountability for genocide and war crimes, especially those committed by the Assad regime in Syria and the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.
He pointed out that the impunity enjoyed by criminals worldwide only reinforces their brutality against innocent people. Rahmeh called for global action to demonstrate the world’s ability to provide justice to victims in conflict zones.
