Haytham Rahmeh, the Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) has condemned the Russian forces’ bombing of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine. This hospital specializes in treating cancer, blood, and chronic diseases.
Rahmeh stated on Wednesday: “Once again, Russian forces have committed a horrific crime, similar to those they perpetrated in Syria, by bombing hospitals and deliberately targeting sensitive and crowded places. This is a war crime.”
He added: “Russia shows no regard for the fact that its actions constitute war crimes. It has committed thousands of crimes alongside the Assad regime and Iran against the Syrian people, all of which have gone unpunished. This lack of accountability has only emboldened it to commit more atrocities.”
Rahmeh emphasized the urgent need for the international community to take a firm stance to protect civilians, especially given the horrific massacres occurring in Syria, Palestine, Ukraine, and Sudan. He expressed solidarity with innocent victims everywhere.
The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, experienced a violent Russian missile attack on Monday, targeting several areas and resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries. The most severe and tragic impact was on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital.
