The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) warned of the Assad regime’s escalation of attacks on civilian areas in northwestern Syria, calling on the international community to take strict measures to deter the regime, hold it accountable, and revitalize the political process.
Secretary of the SOC’s political committee, Abdelbaset Abdellatif, stated that the Assad regime continues to procrastinate on a political solution and relies on military action, ignoring all UN resolutions.
Abdellatif reaffirmed the SOC’s commitment to the aspirations of the Syrian people for a complete political transition that guarantees freedom, dignity, and democratic transformation through the implementation of UN resolutions on Syria, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
The Syrian Civil Defense issued a report stating that the regime targeted the southern Idlib countryside with three suicide drones on Thursday, hitting a civilian car in the village of Farkiya in Jabal al-Zawiya, and another civilian car in the village of Shanan. The third drone exploded in a field on the outskirts of the village without causing any damage.
The Civil Defense pointed out that Russian jets escalated their attacks on the Idlib countryside on Wednesday, targeting the out-of-service vocational secondary school on the outskirts of the town of Jisr al-Shughur, west of Idlib, with two air strikes at night, causing major damage to the school without any civilian casualties.
The Civil Defense stated that Russian jets are now using new and dangerous tactics, deploying high-explosive munitions, while the regime uses suicide drones to target civilians and populated areas. This, they noted, increases instability and undermines civilian life, educational activities, and agricultural activities in northwestern Syria. They warned of a catastrophe and a new wave of mass displacement of civilians.
