The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, praised the stance of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regarding Syria, appreciating the critical Gulf role in supporting the Syrian people and standing by them during this critical phase.
In a press statement, Rahmeh emphasized that the fall of the Assad regime has been a crucial key for Syrians to achieve political transition, build a state of justice and equality, and fulfill their aspirations for freedom, dignity, and democratic transformation.
Rahmeh expressed his gratitude for the GCC’s commitment to the importance of respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and their rejection of foreign interference in its internal affairs. He also valued their support for a comprehensive and inclusive transitional process that meets the Syrian people’s aspirations for stability, development, and a dignified life.
Rahmeh pointed out that the war waged by the Assad regime and its allies against the Syrian people has caused extensive destruction to residential neighborhoods and infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and places of worship, in addition to deteriorating services such as electricity, water, and oil derivatives. He extended his thanks to the GCC countries for their continued commitment to providing necessary support to the Syrian people.
