The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, expressed gratitude to Ukraine for its decision to supply Syria with grain and other agricultural products on a humanitarian basis. Rahmeh emphasized that this ethical stance, coming at such a critical time for Syria, will never be forgotten and will remain etched in the memory of the Syrian people.
In a press statement, Rahmeh underscored that Syria needs the support of its brothers and friends to provide security and services for its population, as well as international assistance to achieve a peaceful transition of power.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday his intention to supply Syria with grain and other agricultural products on humanitarian grounds, just one week after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
In his daily address, Zelensky stated, “Now we can help the Syrians with our wheat, flour, and oil—our products that are used globally to ensure food security.”
He said that the potential shipments would be part of the “Grain from Ukraine” program, launched in 2022 to provide food aid to the countries most in need.
