SOC Convenes Consultative Meeting with Over 25 Political Parties and Movements to Address Recent Developments

The Political Parties and Movements Working Group of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) convened a consultative meeting with Syrian political parties and movements on Monday to address several pressing issues. These included the situation of Syrian refugees in Türkiye, particularly recent events in the city of Kayseri, developments in liberated northern Syria, and the latest political developments related to the Syrian crisis in the region.

The meeting, chaired by SOC’s Vice-President Abdul Majeed Barakat and coordinated by Muhammad Ali Issa, also saw the participation of members from the political committee and representatives from over 25 Syrian national political parties and movements.

Barakat condemned the recent violence against Syrian refugees in Kayseri and highlighted SOC’s communication with Turkish authorities, resulting in the arrest of hundreds involved in these incidents. Concurrently, meetings were held with leaders of popular movements in northern Syria to seek common ground for solutions.

Emphasizing Türkiye’s interests, Barakat outlined SOC’s vision for a political solution in Syria, stressing the necessity of a complete political transition and the implementation of key UN resolutions including the Geneva Communique of 2012, and Resolutions 2118 and 2254.

Participants affirmed SOC’s status as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, advocating for a political solution that meets the demands of the Syrian people for regime change and the attainment of freedom, dignity, and democracy.

They called for enhanced communication with the Syrian people to rebuild trust and develop strategic plans to face future challenges. Additionally, they underscored the importance of expanding SOC’s international outreach and seeking alliances based on mutual interests.

Attendees highlighted the need to strengthen SOC politically, economically, and militarily, consolidate opposition unity under its leadership, and rejuvenate its ranks to demonstrate its capacity as a viable alternative to the Assad regime. They viewed SOC’s invitation to Syrian political parties for consultation as a pivotal step towards finding solutions.

Participants addressed the Syrian revolution’s goals and stressed the urgent need for a strategic shift. They emphasized activating the role of the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee, proposing SOC’s political committee member to preside over it. They also urged empowering the institutions of the Syrian Interim Government, educating refugees about their rights, and promoting a culture of lawfulness.

Furthermore, attendees urged SOC to bolster its dialogue with the Turkish government to regularize the status of Syrians in Türkiye and northern liberated areas. They proposed establishing a legal office to monitor refugee deportations and emphasized the Syrian people’s right to peaceful demonstration, attributing recent protests to long-standing unresolved issues.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
