The Syrian Civil Defense reported no fewer than 392 attacks by the Assad regime and its allies on northwestern Syria in the first half of 2024, resulting in 38 deaths, including 13 children and six women, and wounding 150 others, including 57 children and 16 women.
In a report detailing these attacks, the Civil Defense noted that the Assad regime forces and Russia conducted 293 artillery attacks, 27 rocket attacks, three attacks using incendiary weapons, and seven air strikes. The report also highlighted the use of cluster weapons, guided missiles, and suicide drones by the Assad regime, Russia, and allied militias.
The Civil Defense emphasized that these attacks have further destabilized the region, undermining the lives, and educational, commercial, and agricultural activities of civilians.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the continued bombing of residential areas by the Assad regime and its backers, and the use of various types of weapons against civilians, once again proves the regime and its supporters’ indifference to international law, treaties, resolutions, and human rights conventions. The SOC pointed out that this behavior clearly shows their disdain for global organizations and bodies responsible for enforcing UN resolutions.
The SOC further stressed that, in light of the international community and organizations’ indifference to fulfill their legal and humanitarian obligations to stop the war crimes committed by the Assad regime, the regime continues to use excessive brutality against civilians daily. This ongoing violence results in constant deaths and injuries and could cause a new wave of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees if the escalation is not urgently addressed.
