President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) Hadi al-Bahra met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara on Wednesday. They discussed the latest ground and political developments in Syria, as well as broader political developments affecting the Syrian crisis.
The meeting was attended by Badr Jamous, President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, and Abdurrahman Mustafa, head of the Syrian Interim Government.
During the meeting, al-Bahra emphasized the SOC’s vision for a just and sustainable solution in Syria. He stated that lasting security and stability, peace, and the fulfillment of Syrians’ aspirations for justice, freedom, and democracy can only be achieved through a political solution in line with UN Resolution 2254, facilitated by the United Nations-led process in Geneva.
Minister Fidan affirmed Türkiye’s support for meaningful and realistic dialogue and negotiation efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution in Syria based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The two sides also addressed key issues concerning Syrian refugees in Türkiye and neighboring countries, the importance of enhancing security, and combating separatist projects and attempts by terrorist organizations to destabilize northern and eastern Syria.
Al-Bahra underscored the need to support the Syrian Interim Government in providing services and creating job opportunities to alleviate the suffering of Syrians. He also emphasized the importance of enabling refugees to return voluntarily, safely, and with dignity, and strengthening the government’s executive capabilities to advance governance systems in the region.
