The political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) convened its regular meeting on Thursday to delve into the latest ground and political developments in Syria, and to review activities commemorating the Syrian Revolution.
SOC’s President, Hadi Al-Bahra, provided an overview of the presidency’s recent engagements, which included participation in events honoring the Syrian Revolution, a visit to the family of the child Ahmed Mamo in Jindires, Afrin countryside, to offer condolences, and multiple meetings in Afrin with Kurdish and Yazidi communities on the occasion of Nowruz.
The Vice-Presidents and the Secretary-General also presented their respective reports on their recent activities. Additionally, the political body assessed reports on the functioning of SOC’s representations and offices in various countries, including Qatar, Germany, France, Italy, Egypt, Jordan, as well as in the Turkish cities of Gaziantep, Hatay, Mersin, and the SOC’s office in Azaz.
Furthermore, the committee engaged in a political analysis of the consequences of Arab normalization with the Assad regime one year after its reinstatement to the Arab League. They also deliberated on the latest briefing from the UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, to the Security Council. Additionally, the committee discussed the United Nations’ plan to establish a trust fund for financing early recovery projects in Syria and its potential ramifications, particularly regarding the location of its headquarters in Damascus.
Moreover, the committee reviewed a military report outlining the latest developments and the military situation on the ground.
Lastly, the committee examined the work reports presented by the Legal and Human Rights Working Group, the Al-Jazira and Al-Furat Working Group, and the Refugees and Displaced Persons Working Group.
