The Syria Recovery Trust Fund released a report detailing its key achievements in 2023, marking its tenth year of operation, expansion, and community resilience support. The report highlighted the implementation of 35 projects and interventions with a total budget of 82.85 million euros across priority sectors and various stages of implementation.
Despite encountering numerous challenges, the Trust Fund reiterated its commitment to addressing the needs of the Syrian people, benefiting a total of 1.13 million individuals across several sectors, including agriculture, food security, livelihood support, health, and electricity.
The report outlined the Fund’s response to the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Türkiye in February 2023, including the implementation of a multi-stage emergency response plan to aid affected communities.
Among the notable achievements of the past year was the establishment and expansion of the revolving lending facility, now operating within the Siraj Financial Services Centers. This initiative contributed to the growth of small and micro-enterprises.
The report highlighted the Fund’s ongoing support for the agriculture and food security sectors in northern Syria, facilitating the production of various crops such as potatoes, onions, vegetables, and wheat. Support to farmers resulted in 12,438 farmers within 51 farmers’ associations cultivating a total of 26,321 hectares of land and harvesting approximately 100,000 tons of wheat. The average wheat production for the year reached 3.79 tons per hectare.
Furthermore, the Trust Fund supported bread production by providing inputs to mills and bakeries, including over 20,000 tons of soft wheat for flour production, yeast, packaging materials, and other consumables. Additionally, efforts were intensified to support renewable energy, particularly in the health, water, and agriculture sectors, to enhance operational efficiency and provide basic services on a large scale.
