Media Statement
Syrian Coalition
Istanbul, Turkey
July 15, 2013
The Syrian Coalition urges the United Nations, its affiliated organizations, and the Arab League to act swiftly to help the deteriorating situation in Syria. Humanitarian corridors must be established immediately to evacuate women, children, and the wounded in Qaboun, Damascus. Assad’s forces are holding civilians hostages in a Qaboun mosque, while there are other reports that Assad’s forces are using civilians as human shields to protect themselves.
Throughout the two year revolution, Assad has used state institutions and resources to crush the opposition, while continuing to commit crimes against humanity. Furthermore, the Syrian army and other militias under Assad’s control have systematically detained, tortured, and killed the Syrian people. Those who are committing these crimes must be brought to justice.
We ask for mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
