On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) proudly acknowledges the tremendous efforts and remarkable achievements of Syrian women across all spheres of society, despite the challenging circumstances imposed by the Assad regime in various regions of Syria. The SOC recognizes their pivotal role in the Syrian revolution and their unwavering pursuit of freedom, dignity, and democracy.
Highlighting the indispensable contribution of Syrian women in shaping a new Syria aligned with the aspirations of its people, the SOC reaffirms its steadfast support for them in overcoming the obstacles they encounter. This support aims to empower women to realize their aspirations, assert their legitimate rights in all domains, and surmount any barriers hindering their full participation in building Syria’s present and future.
Syrian women have made significant strides on political, humanitarian, and social fronts through their dedication, resilience, and assumption of substantial responsibilities. Yet, they have also endured the brunt of the Assad regime’s brutality, with thousands arbitrarily arrested, killed, and subjected to appalling violations throughout its relentless war on the Syrian people. Despite these adversities, Syrian women remain the bedrock of Syrian society, integral to the endeavor of reconstructing a free Syria.
On this momentous occasion, the SOC extends its warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Syrian women everywhere. It reaffirms its unwavering support and ongoing collaboration with revolutionary forces both within Syria and abroad to dismantle the barriers constraining Syrian women’s rights and opportunities.
