The travesty of elections that the Assad regime’s security services came up with did not bring with them any surprises. They were but an outrageous demonstration of servility, self-degradation and forgery, serving only to further expose the reality of tyranny, oppression, coercion, and dictatorship that has plagued Syria for decades.
Every time the Assad regime tries to put up a successful gimmick, its performance reflects on it to increase the ugliness of the charade and further exposes itself. Every picture and scene it presents adds up to the new evidence of oppression, tyranny and coercion it exerts on people whose faces and eyes reveal what cannot be expressed in words.
The head of the regime decided to present one of the scenes of this farce in Douma, which witnessed the most horrible crime that it committed using chemical weapons. This move represents an attempt to offend the thousands of victims who died in eastern Ghouta by the Assad regime’s gunfire, bombs, barrel bombs and chemical weapons without the international community moving a finger or assuming its responsibilities.
The return of the criminal to one of his crime scenes is a message that the regime will adhere to criminality as a tool for survival, and that it does not care about international justice or UN resolutions.
The positions of the states that confirmed their rejection of this farce deserve thanks and appreciation as they have given Syrians hope for serious steps to support their struggle for freedom, democracy and justice, and reaching a political solution to ensure the transfer of power to a transitional governing body with full powers in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Sensible media and social media outlets have significantly contributed and are still exposing this total farce, and they deserve thanks and appreciation for their efforts in this regard.
Thousands of activists, Syrian national personalities, thinkers, celebrities and influential people took part in the campaign against this farce, along with hundreds of thousands of Syrian men and women who expressed their outright rejection of this farce and their participation in the anti-demonstrations and sit-ins that they carried out around the world. These achieved much more than expected and contributed to exposing the forgery and fraud that the regime sought to carry out. Their efforts deserve much thanks and praise. We call on all of them for more cooperation and struggle for the freedom and dignity of the Syrian people.
The Syrian people will continue with the revolution until achieving justice by holding the criminal and his aides accountable, and transitioning the country towards a new Syria, and a civil, democratic state.
