Today, the world watched with shock one of the countless massacres of the murderous Assad regime, a footage of which was brought to light by the British newspaper the Guardian on Wednesday. The chilling video, date stamped 16 April 2013, depicts dozens of blindfolded and handcuffed detainees who are shot dead by Assad regime’s militants as they are forced to run towards an execution pit. The bodies were then set on fire.
This massacre is just one of thousands of horrible massacres that the Assad regime and its allies have been committing against the Syrian people. What the Syrian people have already known has now become visible to the whole world, leaving no room for doubt as to the responsibility of this brutal regime for numerous massacres.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stresses that this crime, which took place in Al-Tadamon suburb of Damascus, is a war crime the perpetrators of which are known by their full names. Such a crime requires referring the Assad regime to the International Criminal Court.
The SOC also stresses that there will no peace in Syria and the region as long as this murderous regime stays in power. The regime committed all kinds of crimes against the Syrian people, including slaughtering with knives, shooting, bombing with artillery, barrel bombs and planes, and suffocation with chemical weapons. These atrocities require expediting international accountability, serving justice and an end to the tragedy of the Syrian people.
