September 06, 2021
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), through its political committee which is in permanent session, is closely following the latest developments in Dara’a province. Communications continue with representatives of the province. All the SOC’s committees, offices and efforts are at the service of Dara’a, its people and their representatives. We reaffirm our support for our people in Dara’s as we are well aware of their circumstances.
Agreements and plans that are imposed with iron and terrorism can only be classified as crimes against humanity, especially since they are concluded under immense pressure inside a small piece of land that is besieged by three armies.
It goes without saying that any agreement that involves the Russian and Iranian occupying forces will be of no value and credibility. These agreements need serious international guarantees that ensure the safety of civilians, and a firm stance that provides the minimum necessities of life and preserves the dignity of our people in Dara’a.
Major actors and sisterly states must take serious and swift action to stop these crimes; lift the blockade on our people in Dara’a as soon as possible, and deliver urgent humanitarian and medical aid. Failure to assume responsibilities with regards to protecting civilians in Dara’a will have dire consequences.
Time and again we have warned of the Iranian threat and the dangers of its quest for regional hegemony. Today, this threat has become a reality in front of everyone as the Iranian regime’s militias have reached the borders of a new Arab country. We hope that the price of this encroachment will not be heavy, and that the Arab states will take action and realize this the danger before they incur further losses that will be irreversible.
The SOC’s political committee is currently making preparations for the launch of an international campaign that will include sending diplomatic letters and legal memoranda to foreign countries and international organizations regarding the violations being committed by the Assad regime and its backers against the people of the Dara’a. The committee is also coordinating efforts and support for the steadfastness of the people of Dara’a against the regime and its backers’ assault. It is also communicating with the United Nations, major actors, and humanitarian and rights organizations.
We renew our support for our people in Dara’a as we commend their steadfastness and determination to remain in their land. Syria’s revolutionaries and men, especially the men of Dara’a, are required to relieve the people in Dara’a city; thwart the malicious Iranian project; and break the Assad regime’s approach of “displacement or extermination.”
Dara’a will remain the birthplace of the Syrian Revolution as it will remain a thorn in the side of tyrants, despots and foreign occupiers. The Syrian citizen, armed with his insistence on regaining their rights and with their yearning for freedom, dignity and justice will continue to struggle on the path of the revolution by all means until their demands are fulfilled and their freedom is restored.
The determination of the Syrian people and their insistence on regaining their freedom and dignity are able to create many new options that guarantee the continuation of the revolution until its just demands are fulfilled.
