The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Department of Foreign Relations held a periodic meeting of the SOC’s representatives in the presence of the department’s coordinator, members and representatives in the Arab and Western states. They discussed the latest developments in Dara’a and the military escalation by the Assad regime and its backers in the province and the international positions towards this escalation.
The meeting brought together the SOC’s Vice-president and coordinator of the Department of Foreign Relations Abdulahad Asteipho, and members of the Department Dima Moussa, Hatem Al-Daher, Atef Zureik, and Firas Al-Masri.
Participants discussed the reactions of the major actors in Syria and evaluated the international actions and stances towards the Assad regime and its backers’ escalation in southern Syria.
Participants stressed the need to raise the issue of Dara’a in all official and marginal meetings and events being held by the SOC and its representatives at the United Nations, international organizations and representatives of foreign countries. They also stressed the need to convey the true picture of what is happening on the ground in Dara’a, namely the crimes and violations of human rights, and the suffering of civilians.
Moreover, they stressed that what is happening in Dara’a constitute a new war crime by the Assad regime and its backers, stressing that Russia is not a guarantor, but a partner in what is happening.
They also discussed the role and tasks of the SOC’s representatives in the international campaign that the SOC launched to mobilize support for Dara’a, including diplomatic letters and legal memos sent to foreign states and international organizations regarding the violations being committed by the Assad regime and its supporters against the people of the city.
Participants also discussed the Department’s plan for the next period, as well as the preparations for the US visit to attend the upcoming meetings of the UN General Assembly.
